Chen Zi’ang: (661–702) was a Chinese poet of the Tang Dynasty. Chen Zi’ang was a firm advocate of poetry reflecting real life, and thus with his active interest in politics.

Behind me I do not see the ancient men,

Before me I do not see the ones to come.

Thinking of the endlessness of heaven and earth,

Alone in despair, my tears fall down.

Up on Youzhou Watch Tower-Tang poems

Kings of the past were before my time,

Who would be there in future to appreciate my service I know not;

I think of how heaven an earth are forever undergoing change and shifts,

I dwell in sorrow alone and down flow my tears.
