Symptoms of anemia in babies
Anemic symptoms in baby include Pale lips, skin and nails, rapid heartbeat, irritability, loss of appetite and swollen hands and feet.
Signs of anemia in babies
Pale lips, skin and nails are one of most typical signs of anemia. The red blood cells are the ones responsible for providing the red color of his blood, which eventually results to a healthy, pink glow on the baby’s skin. If there is not enough level of red blood cells in the baby’s blood, the lips, nail beds and skin may appear unusually pale.
·Fatigue or irritability
Babies with anemia are sleepier than normal and may seem irritable. Babies become more easily fatigued during normal activities and may be sleepy during breastfeeding.
·Fast heartbeat and breathing
Insufficient levels of red blood cells in the body may affect a baby’s heart rate and breathing. When the body detects a decrease in the level of red blood cells, the heart compensates by attempting to pump more blood through the body. This compensation mechanism result to a rapid heartbeat and goes together with rapid breathing.
·Decreased appetite
Poor appetite is one of the anemic symptoms in baby.
·Swollen hands and feet
These are due to poor blood circulation. Swollen hands and feet are usually signs of worsening anemia condition.
·Reduced growth rate
A baby who is anemic may also have a slower rate of growth and weight gain.
